Continue to let their engineers do as they're doing. Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with the fast and loose policy and spinning random products into the air and seeing how many get shot down.<br /><br />But: phase in a division of marketing dedicated to examining, exploring, and probing each of these new products. This division must have a high degree of technical savvy, but their focus must be as marketers. Their job should be:<br /><br />1) Figure out possible directions for new products to go. E.g., "We have Desktop, we have Toolbar, why don't we integrate them?" (Probably a bad idea, btw, but an example.)<br /><br />2) Figure out marketing strategies for all new products. This means:<br /><br />2a) Inter-product integration. (These two belong together. E.g., Docs & Spreadsheets.)<br /><br />2b) Target audience. You cover this well enough yourself.<br /><br />2c) Public exposure of products.
